August Newsletter 2024

Dear Residents,

Another successful Farmers Summerfest Festival is in the books. We had great weather and great crowds the entire weekend. A big thanks to all the organizers and volunteers that made it such a successful event.

Our main street project, the Berne Street project is set to begin on September 1st with completion estimated on October 31st. Paving of the Event Center parking lot will be done the last week in August.

Included with this newsletter is an update on the discoloration of the water we received from Caseville. Water testing is done daily to ensure that it is safe to drink. Many residents have questioned the water pricing and what can be done to reduce it. As a Village Council, we struggle with that every time we receive a price increase from Caseville, especially with the discolored water. Back in the early 1990’s the Village knew that there were problems with the wells that provided water to Pigeon. When it was determined that drilling new wells was not going to be an option, the Village then began looking at the possibility of bringing lake water from Caseville via pipeline to Pigeon. A contract agreement was reached that would bring water to Pigeon at a cost per 1,000 gallons of water and a fixed rate of 16.9% of costs to maintain a water processing plant in Caseville was established. We price our water in an effort to break even every year and will do everything in our power to keep rates down.

The City of Caseville water system is audited every year to ensure proper accounting to Caeville, Caseville Township, and the Village of Pigeon. Please attend a Council Meeting if you have additional questions.  Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely,
Michael LePage
Village President
